FAIR WARNING: Today begins the 4th annual 31 Days of Five Minute Free Writes hosted by Five Minute Friday. My intent is to post a five-minute free write each day in October. Don’t worry… I’ll still work in seasonal thoughts and decor! This is a once-a-year event (so please don’t unsubscribe). 🙂 If you don’t want to read a day’s email, you know where the delete button is.
Worship: to honor with extravagant love and extreme submission; as a lover (Webster’s Dictionary,1828).
START
I love the 1828 definition. The lavishness of the imagery.
Worship isn’t a place I go on Sunday mornings or a style of music. Worship isn’t even particular words or prayers I pray.
It’s an action. Worship is a verb.
As with a lover, to worship my God is to focus unselfishly on him. To let him in on my deepest thoughts and secrets, fears and dreams.
To acknowledge his place as my Creator . . . because of who he is — not what he can do for me.
My spirit is drawn heavenward in worship when I stand in a cathedral, hear a baby’s cry, listen to the cooing of a dove.
I worship when Autumn light glistens in the trees and winds rustle their leaves.
STOP
Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.
Worship the Lord with gladness;
come before him with joyful songs.
Know that the Lord is God.
It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving
and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name.
For the Lord is good and his love endures forever;
his faithfulness continues through all generations.
Psalm 100:1-5 (NIV)
Continuing the series…
If you enjoy 31-day series, October is your lucky month!
Writers all over Blogland are challenging themselves: some through free writes (like this one); others by picking one topic, as I’ve done in previous years. Click on the image to see the posts!
