Summer to Fall

The last time I was here, I showed you these tablecloths and invited you to come back to see what blue and yellow have to do with Fall decorating.  You’re back!  I’m so glad you stopped by for a visit. Thank you!  Now let’s talk decorating …

Do you like to decorate with blue and yellow in the Summer? Have you ever extended that blue and yellow into the Fall? Let’s try it and see what happens!

Several weeks ago I was in Big Lots and saw this Fitz and Floyd piece for $30. I absolutely loved it, and it was calling my name — but I walked away.  Not much time to shop … it was large and I wasn’t sure where I would store it … I didn’t NEED it … the lines were long …   I walked away.

Last week I was in Big Lots again and it was 50% off!  Now only $15 — and still calling my name …  (There were three. Should I have picked one up for you, too?)  I grabbed it and headed for the check-out lane.  Still didn’t NEED it — I wanted to share it with you!

Next I stopped by the grocery store and bought some yellow gourds … and added them to some faux (aka FAKE) ones I bought last year at Dollar Tree.  Can you tell the difference?  I don’t think so …

… unless you bought the same gourds at DT last year, too!  (The three small ones are imposters!)

I pulled out this tablecloth — and started setting the table.

The Fitz and Floyd centerpiece filled with gourds …

… surrounded by wooden candle holders and a faux leaf garland.  (I’d usually use real leaves, but it’s still a little too early here in the valley.)

I added a teakwood salt and pepper set…

A vintage Wild Turkey decanter…

…a vintage Lenox Saw Whet Owl figurine — and a sprinkling of pecans throughout.

Then I went to work on the place settings.  These copper-colored embossed plastic chargers are available at Wal-Mart right now.

Year-round favorite white Gibson “Claremont” plates — aka “Gollum China” in Blogland!

Vintage cobalt blue salad plates…

Mikasa “Italian Countryside” stainless flatware…

Cobalt and clear goblets from Dollar Tree 2-3 years ago…

Damask napkins I’ve had for years — and wooden leaf napkin rings I picked up several years ago on clearance at an outlet mall store.  (Notice that I used a darker shade of gold for the napkins — and let the lighter gold shade of the napkin rings “match” the tablecloth. Light-colored napkins wouldn’t have looked as Fall-ish.)

Vintage leaf-shaped dishes are being used in this tablescape instead of bread plates.  …You HAVE heard of bread bowls, haven’t you?  🙂

So what do you think? … Do blue and yellow work for Fall decorating?

When night fell, it was time to light the candles …
