Finally… The first day of Fall!
Hello, old friend! I’ve looked forward to your return for a whole year.
I’m beginning to feel the mood swing coming on. Summer’s sunflowers are moving out . . .
and warmth and texture are moving in!
The metamorphosis of seasons is upon us!
At this time of year, some people like to decorate with the traditional: vibrant colors of red, orange, gold, and brown … pumpkins, gourds, and colored leaves … corn stalks, bales of hay, and chrysanthemums. While I sometimes do that, too, Fall decorating for me often includes …
A PUNCH OF BLUES
TEXTURED FABRICS
(burlap, macrame, doilies, tapestries)
WOOD
(bowls, candle holders, napkin rings, wooden fruit)
METALS
(pewter, copper, brass, gold)
POTTERY
(the more “rustic” — or textured — the better!)
LEATHER
(books, boxes, pouches)
COLORED GLASS
DRIED BEANS
ACORNS
(Just hot glue the caps back on if they’ve already fallen off!)
MIXED NUTS
(… “drizzled” throughout the display)
CANDLES
(real wicks or flameless — pillars or tea lights. I use them all!)
And this is what I get: warm and cozy for the new season…
And would you believe? With the exception of my Grandmother’s doily and the beautiful pottery piece my sweet husband had commissioned for me as a surprise years ago, everything — EVERYTHING — you see in this picture was a thrifty find!
You can do it, too!
If you live somewhere besides the United States (or if your part of the U.S. is nontraditional!), I’d love to know what colors are cool-weather favorites where you live. Leave a comment so we can all learn something!
Need more Autumn inspiration? Here you go!
By the way, if you’ve been a My Place to Yours reader since the beginning, (thanks for that!) this post may look familiar. A very similar version posted in the Fall of 2010—the year I started blogging.
Hi, Susan! I’m just hoping the thermometer will “get the memo!” High temp here today at 91 degrees, though the car registered 95 this afternoon at 3:30! Not too much like the Autumn we are anticipating.:-) Sending hugs, Nellie
