Whimsy: A Christmas Theme

Looking for some whimsical decorating ideas this year? Perhaps these inspiration boards will help.

Even if you like the traditional reds and greens of Christmas, you can still add some whimsy with

  • fun graphics
  • traditional elements in a non-traditional style (like this tree)
  • swirls
  • candies
  • pom-pom ornaments

Whimsy Christmas Traditional

Or, use bright color combinations and elements in non-traditional ways:

  • unexpected textures (tulle, shredded and curled papers, spiked balls, mesh)
  • patterned papers (plaids, stripes, etc.)
  • ribbons

Whimsy Christmas Lime

  • playful ornaments
  • cheerful felt crafts
  • sparkle! (glitter, sequins, shiny ornaments)

Whimsy Christmas Aqua

This next board showcases virtually all of those ideas… and it showcases my go-to “whimsy” colors.  🙂

I used them in this Quirky Christmas tablescape and this Russian Winter tablescape.

  1. Susan, I am so enjoying your theme posts. You have come up with the most interesting ideas and examples.

Feel free to come over and link all of the theme posts at Pink Saturday. I don’t have a limit on how many times you can link.

  2. What fun collections! It’s I really love the two middle ones. As you know, I’m not afraid of color! ha! I think my favorite whimsy colors are chartreuse greens and turquoises with lots of sparkle!
