This week the call came.
Paperwork signed by both parties. It was time for a new beginning. I was numb. Was this really happening?
Could it really be another “win” for the weary?
It was.
Yesterday I walked into the old Melody Theater in our historic downtown. The trash and overgrowth of vegetation was surreal.
But the light . . . Oh, the light was amazing!
I didn’t expect the old walls to feel so peaceful, but that’s what happens when I start to get “in the zone” with a vision.
This building is now back in the hands of someone who will do something positive with it.
Someone who won’t let it continue to be demolished by neglect.
This building is actually very sound and has lots of covered space for some of the needs we have—and lots of open space for dreaming.
So I’ve started dreaming with the property owner and my Renaissance Man. Dreaming . . . now that this diamond in the rough is back in good hands.
Welcome back, Melody Theater! You’ll never be the same again—but at least you’ll be around to meet your neighbors.
Let’s walk toward the light together!
STOP
So what am I dreaming for this space? I envision an expansion of Mossy Creek Station; a multi-use space for festival vendors, exhibits, much-needed storage and office space.
And something else for the kids. Definitely hoping for that!
I love how much you are involved in contributing to restoring downtown Jefferson City.
Our recent STD. Banner had the City Hall on the front page. Good for the city and CNU.
Patricia, we’re definitely still trying to move forward! So much has happened downtown since you moved away.
I love to see people’s vision – from the very beginning. I must admit, I so often lack that vision. With old buildings and many other things that have true potential. Something I need to work on!
Hi, Jennifer. Some people have the gift of “seeing the big picture”; others don’t. Fortunately, it takes us all using our gifts to reach our potential as families, churches, and communities.
I am excited that someone is taking an interest in forgotten places, like the theater in Jefferson City, TN. I grew up in Nashville, TN, and I love finding someone online who lives in TN and is doing something positive. I now live in OR and don’t get back to TN often. I’ll be praying for your vision and for God to provide the ideas and funding you need. So happy to be your neighbor on FMF!
Sherrey, thank you for your commitment to pray for our efforts here in Jefferson City! That truly means a lot. I happen to believe that the health of our community is somehow connected to the health of our old downtown, and we’re working hard to support and encourage our neighbors by restoring this place of memory-making from yesteryear—and providing new opportunities for today’s young families. We’re definitely asking God help us be creative—and provide those always-needed funds! If you ever happen to get back to our neck of the woods, look me up!
