FIVE MINUTE FRIDAY: Back

This week the call came.

Paperwork signed by both parties. It was time for a new beginning. I was numb. Was this really happening?

In 2017, Mossy Creek Station was built in the vacant lots next to the theater. It’s now a go-to venue for outdoor movies, concerts, yoga classes, festivals, and lots more!

Could it really be another “win” for the weary?

It was.

Yesterday I walked into the old Melody Theater in our historic downtown. The trash and overgrowth of vegetation was surreal.

This building is huge! See that little speck of a man in the top pic? That’s my 5’11” Renaissance Man!

But the light . . . Oh, the light was amazing!

I didn’t expect the old walls to feel so peaceful, but that’s what happens when I start to get “in the zone” with a vision.

This building is now back in the hands of someone who will do something positive with it.

Someone who won’t let it continue to be demolished by neglect.

This building is actually very sound and has lots of covered space for some of the needs we have—and lots of open space for dreaming.

This pic is taken from the second floor balcony. Everything to the right is currently open to the elements. Everything to the left (two floors) will receive its first transformation very soon by filling some dumpsters!

So I’ve started dreaming with the property owner and my Renaissance Man. Dreaming . . .  now that this diamond in the rough is back in good hands.

Welcome back, Melody Theater! You’ll never be the same again—but at least you’ll be around to meet your neighbors.

Let’s walk toward the light together!

STOP

You know what I love about Five Minute Friday? I love that a single word prompt can bring to mind so many different images! Every writer has a different take on the word. You really should click this pic and check out what others are saying about this word.

So what am I dreaming for this space? I envision an expansion of Mossy Creek Station; a multi-use space for festival vendors, exhibits, much-needed storage and office space.

And something else for the kids. Definitely hoping for that!

One board member’s dream . . .

Comments

  1. I love how much you are involved in contributing to restoring downtown Jefferson City.
Our recent STD. Banner had the City Hall on the front page. Good for the city and CNU.

  2. I love to see people’s vision – from the very beginning. I must admit, I so often lack that vision. With old buildings and many other things that have true potential. Something I need to work on!

  3. I am excited that someone is taking an interest in forgotten places, like the theater in Jefferson City, TN. I grew up in Nashville, TN, and I love finding someone online who lives in TN and is doing something positive. I now live in OR and don’t get back to TN often. I’ll be praying for your vision and for God to provide the ideas and funding you need. So happy to be your neighbor on FMF!

    • Sherrey, thank you for your commitment to pray for our efforts here in Jefferson City! That truly means a lot. I happen to believe that the health of our community is somehow connected to the health of our old downtown, and we’re working hard to support and encourage our neighbors by restoring this place of memory-making from yesteryear—and providing new opportunities for today’s young families. We’re definitely asking God help us be creative—and provide those always-needed funds! If you ever happen to get back to our neck of the woods, look me up!
