If you've read this blog for very long, you may remember reading THIS post I did about Carbona Stain Devils. Well, I guess the post (plus a few other references I've made to these amazing products) got someone's attention ... because today My Place to Yours is featured on Carbona's StainTalk blog. If you'd like to read the interview, click HERE. One of the questions I was asked had to do with advice for someone who "shares my passion" for tablescaping. Here's an excerpt from my answer: For someone just learning to tablescape, here’s a piece of advice: start with a topical theme and work from there; it helps you stay focused. Here are some examples: Topical themes: Beach; Cowboy; Birdhouses; Sunflowers; ... Keep Reading...
The Wedding Closet
It's June ... a popular month for weddings -- and Stephanie of Angelic Accents is hosting her 2nd Annual To Have & To Hold Wedding Blog Party. We're all invited! I love weddings! I love the anticipation ... and the flowers ... the dresses ... This is my youngest daughter -- Little Man's Mommy. These are her wedding pictures. She and her husband celebrated their 5th anniversary last week. the details ... the venues -- however elegant or simple ... I love the romance ... And, oh please, when a couple marries -- let there be commitment ... I love the "whatever we face, we're in it together" ... I love the hope ... that unseen ... Keep Reading...
Peonies for Lunch!
Hello all! I'm so glad you stopped by, and I hope you're having a wonderful week. It's been very HOT here in beautiful East Tennessee -- and, yes I realize, even hotter for some of you -- so this week I'm posting a fresh and cool tablescape. Our family recently had the pleasure of visiting with a dear friend from Louisiana ... someone we hadn't seen in five years. She was in a nearby town on business, and gave us the privilege of her company for a few hours one afternoon. Because I wanted to spend as little time as possible in the kitchen -- and more time visiting! -- I planned a simple salad lunch. These brightly-colored reversible placemats by Country Living (which I recently found UNUSED at Goodwill for $4!) were ... Keep Reading...
HIDDEN: In Plain Sight … Solution to the Dish Storage Challenge
This is an especially fun week in Blogland because The Tablescaper is celebrating her Second Blog-aversary -- and hosting a party! If you've already met The Tablescaper, you know that she's in the process of turning her tablescaping passion into a business ... and I'm thinking "passion" is a huge understatement! She has so many dishes that for her First Blog-aversary she answered people's "Where do you keep it all?" question with this amazing array of pictures. This week she's invited us all to show where we keep what we collect ... dishes, linens, craft supplies, recipes, you name it. Quite simply -- where do we stash our stash? If you've been a reader of My Place to Yours for very long, you may have ... Keep Reading...

Magnolias & Memories: Table for Two
Weren't we just doing Thanksgiving and Christmas tablescapes? And now here it's already the beginning of June -- and at My Place to Yours we're smack dab in the middle of graduation and wedding season ... with a busy Summer ahead. Same thing at your house? I'm glad you took a minute today to stop by! This week's tablescape is a seasonal one of sorts because it features the Southern-favorite magnolia. I'd never had a magnolia tree in my yard until we bought our old house, but it had a big one in the back yard. I got so excited thinking of the gorgeous blossoms and fragrant breezes it would provide. But when we began plans for adding a garage at the back of our house, Renaissance Man said the ... Haunted … in Broad Daylight
While scanning the military section of a large Tyler, Texas cemetery last week, I spotted you. Two small American flags, side-by-side, obviously once placed at the same time on two adjoining graves. How do I know? Well, quite frankly, you both looked alike ... but not at all like the other American flags surrounding the many graves in your vicinity. You were no longer red, white, and blue but rather red, dirty-brown, and blue -- and you were tattered. Very tattered; pieces of your elegant garment long ago blown away by the winds of time. At first I was offended to see you standing there waving like you were important. In reality, I was almost embarrassed for you. Judgmental Me shook her head and turned away to admire the ... Advice from Erma Bombeck: A favorite post from the past
This week I'm joining Chari at Happy To Design for Sunday Favorites. It's a party for sharing a favorite post from the past ... I first shared Burn the Pink Candle! on August 5, 2010. As the busy days of Summer begin, you might enjoy reading it for the first time -- or again. A few days ago, I opened this drawer and I saw it ... Strange ... I've opened that drawer many times over the past few weeks and never noticed it before. Seems like I remember reading something once about a candle shaped like a rose. I was curious, so I Googled it. (What did we do before Google?) And I found what I remembered ... I'll let you see it, too. If I Had My Life To Live Over by Erma Bombeck The following was written by the ... Keep Reading...
Two Parties: A Birthday AND A Graduation
Congratulations, Beverly, on three years of PINK FUN! When I saw this table while out shopping several months ago, I knew it would show up sometime at Pink Saturday... It's really not my style, but it definitely made me think of Pink Saturday. I think a birthday party is the perfect time to share it -- and I know some of you will love it! But today you get 2 for 1 ... You may remember that I recently hosted a bridal shower on my front porch. You can read about it HERE. The bride and groom are both English teachers, so I used books as part of the decorations. As parties often do, this one passed too quickly, so before putting everything away, I decided to do a quick graduation tablescape for you. Watch how easy it is to go from ... Keep Reading...
Family Treasures
It's been another busy week of travel at My Place to Yours, so I'm sharing a tablescape I did recently when I visited my sister in Texas. Although she appreciates a pretty table, tablescaping is not "her thing" -- yet. But we had lots of fun playing in her dishes! She laughed at me for "shopping the house," but I think you'll agree that she had some nice things to choose from! As it turned out, we used family treasures. Some from our family ... and some from her husband's family. This gorgeous Homer Laughlin Apple Blossom china once belonged to her husband's grandmother. Easy to see why we were inspired, isn't it? The "simple but elegant" glasses were her mother-in-law's. I wonder if they were ... Keep Reading...
Cowgirl Up!
Welcome to My Place to Yours at this beginning of a new week! I hope it's a fantastic one for you. I'm so glad you decided to stop by today. For Pink Saturday I gave you a glimpse into the pink and powerful personality of a young, just-graduated-from-high-school friend of mine. Click pic to read the post I've known her family for many years. Renaissance Man and her father were college debaters together. She knows I like to plan parties, so she asked me to help her brainstorm ideas for her graduation Open House. Of course, that's just "play" for me, so I was happy to do it! As I told you before, she's a cowgirl at heart ... ... so it didn't surprise me at all when she sent this ... Keep Reading...
Pink and Powerful: I AM WOMAN
It's time for another Pink Saturday post, and this one's POWERFUL. Some of you will love it; some of you won't. I'm reminded that it takes all kinds ... Last weekend I traveled to Indiana to attend a high school graduation Open House in honor of a young friend. She's an athlete, a "girly girl" with a model's good looks -- and loves pink. This is her 9mm handgun. And her multi- multi-volt taser. She knows how to use them -- properly. Her Daddy saw to that! She's also a cowgirl at heart ... ... and appreciates a peaceful setting. She's the baby of the four children in her family. Her dream is to have her own cosmetology business. Quite an interesting mix of interests, huh? I hope ... Keep Reading...
Aloha
It all started with this postcard ... I bought it over a decade ago on the only trip I've ever taken to Hawaii. For some reason it struck me as hilarious ... Still does. The time's never seemed right to send it to anyone -- until now. This weekend, my parents leave with my nephew on his "trip with the grandparents" vacation -- and the college freshman chose Hawaii. In honor of their trip, I've been planning a tablescape ... but Renaissance Man didn't know that when he and Little Man surprised me with this orchid for Mother's Day. He must've read my mind... Another piece of my inspiration was this Hawaiian girl plaster bust that belongs to my daughter (aka Little Man's Mommy). We often laugh about her ... Keep Reading...
Whatever It Takes … I Guess
Most of you readers are women -- and the few men who visit here all have female friends and family -- so I decided to do this quick little post to celebrate Pink Saturday. I learned something about myself this week. I THOUGHT I was an "any excuse'll do for a party" kind of person. But that was before this cute invitation caught my eye across the waiting room. When I walked over and read it, I just laughed and shook my head... Oh, DARN! If I'd only known I could have waited one more day and joined the party! In all seriousness, that's really not my style -- but I hope the event was well-attended and that everyone had a good time. Ladies, "whatever it takes ..." be sure to take care of yourself -- for you and for your ... Keep Reading...
The Pleasure of a Porch: Outdoor Entertaining
This post was originally published on the evening of May 11 prior to the Blogger Fiasco I told you about HERE. It's now restored here -- unfortunately without the comments that were made. To those of you who left comments the first time this was published, I enjoyed reading them all! Leave another if you like, but it's certainly not necessary. Welcome to My Place to Yours! I'm glad you stopped by for a visit ... and I'll hope you join me again. This week I'm showing you a quick tablescape from a bridal shower I hosted on Mother's Day. You may remember that the last time I was here, I showed you in THIS post how I embellished these sculptural metal plant holders to get them ready for a bridal shower I'd be hosting. Don't ... Got Any Glue? Updating Vintage Metal Sculptures
It's been a wild and crazy week at my house, but I'm determined to post a quick something for Metamorphosis Monday. It IS still Monday, isn't it? A few months ago I found these cute sculptural wire plant holders at an auction. They'd been outside and were in less than ideal condition, but I liked their shape -- and the idea that I could use them for (almost) one-of-a-kind focal pieces during the Spring and Summer. The perfect occasion quickly presented itself, and I decided to fix them up and use them for a couple's bridal shower. Some Mod Podge... ... and scrapbook papers in the bride's favorite black and white theme were just what I needed for inspiration. Say goodbye to the rust and old paint ... Keep Reading...
