Days are getting a little cooler where I live, and I’m beginning to feel the mood swing coming on.
My preference for all things cool, light, and airy in the Summertime …
is quickly being replaced by a preference for warmth and texture. LOTS of texture!
The metamorphosis of seasons is upon us!
At this time of year, some people like to decorate with the traditional: vibrant colors of red, orange, gold, and brown … pumpkins, gourds, and colored leaves … corn stalks, bales of hay, and chrysanthemums. While I occasionally do that, too, Fall decorating for me usually includes …
TEXTURED FABRICS
(burlap, macrame, doilies, tapestries)
WOOD
(bowls, candle holders, napkin rings, wooden fruit)
METALS
(pewter, copper, brass, gold)
POTTERY
(the more “rustic” — or textured — the better!)
LEATHER
(books, boxes, pouches)
ACORNS
(Just hot glue the caps back on if they’ve already fallen off!)
MIXED NUTS
(… “drizzled” throughout the display)
CANDLES
(real wicks or flameless — pillars or tea lights. I use them all!)
And this is what I get: warm and cozy for the new season…
And would you believe? With the exception of my Grandmother’s doily and the beautiful pottery piece my sweet husband had commissioned for me as a surprise years ago, everything — EVERYTHING — you see in this picture was a thrifty find!<
You can do it, too!
If you live somewhere besides the United States (or if your part of the U.S. is nontraditional!), I’d love to know what colors are cold-weather favorites where you live. Leave a comment so we can all learn something!

Hi Susan,
I love your fall vignette! We’re not feeling the fall weather at all here in my part of GA…still really, really hot. Today it was 95 degrees but when the weather does change I’ll be ready.:o)
Thanks for the tip on gluing the heads back onto the acorns, never would have thought of that one.
Have a great week.
Fondly,

I really like the use of the non-traditional blue color for an added pop to the usual earth tones used for fall decorating! You used a lot of textures in your vignette to give it some pop and interest- great job! I enjoyed my visit here from Karin’s party. 🙂
