Preparing for a Cross-Country Move …

I’ve sure missed spending time with all of you, but for the past couple of weeks, Renaissance Man and I have been hanging out here … coming and going through the door on the left … and doing a lot of DIY projects.

The building was built in the 1890s and was once home to the Mossy Creek Bank.  It’s located on Main Street in the old downtown section of Jefferson City, Tennessee
an easy walk from My Place.

According to the Mossy Creek Historic District website,Jefferson City’s downtown area was chosen in 2010 as one of only four locations in East Tennessee to participate in the state’s inaugural Tennessee Downtowns Program, a community improvement program for cities and counties seeking to revitalize traditional commercial districts.  Yes, please, because right now, it’s an eyesore.

The “barely there” building on the right reminds me of the favelas in Brazil.  Not a bad reminder … considering the old Mossy Creek Bank is becoming the new headquarters office of Hope Unlimited for Children.  When circumstances changed recently at our current location in California, and Hope’s Board decided to move the office so it will be conveniently located for Renaissance Man in Tennessee, it only made sense to do our part to support the downtown renovation.

We’re making really good progress, but you’ll have to wait a little longer for pictures.  Old buildings have special challenges personalities, and they don’t like to be rushed.  I learned that when we renovated our old house.

For now, I’ll be spending the next few hours resting my aching body.  Tomorrow will be here soon enough … and there’s one more room to paint.

Are you in the middle of any projects this week?
Please leave a comment so we can all enjoy (or commiserate) with you!

  2. What an exciting time for you, Susan! But – certainly a lot of work for you.

We lived in the Jefferson City area about 43 years ago for a couple of years. It has been a very long time since we have driven through the downtown area, though.

  3. Oh, my gosh, how exciting, Susan! But I’m sure the work that’s gone in so far, and remains is grueling. With love and passion anything is possible, though. Canm’t wait to see the results! My best wishes to a successful move and continued success with this so-worthwhile endeavor. ~Zuni

  6. Wow! That’s one heck of a move!!!! TOTALLY across the country!!! That’s quite a big deal! Best wishes as you continue the hard work involved with the renovation. I know that’s gotta be really, really tough…but a labor of sheer love. I am in the middle of a project this week: reorganizing and cleaning my home office. No redecorating or fancy stuff…just pure gritty work. Rescue me!!! 🙂

  7. I know that you must be thrilled that RM will be closer to home…and you. There were years when Sweet Mister was on the road more than 200+ days each year. I’m so glad that those days are long gone. Thanks for keeping us in the loop. Cherry Kay
