The Package

package1

I do love a pretty package! You, too?
I also love pretty pics of packages, but phone camera pics are the best I can do right now.  I know you’ll understand.

If you’re a regular visitor here at My Place to Yours and you’ve read my last couple of posts, then you know that we went to Texas for Thanksgiving … and stayed when Renaissance Man’s 92-year-old mother broke her hip badly enough to require surgery. She has declined in health ever since. Last Tuesday we moved her to a wonderful hospice facility where I’ve seen some amazing examples of creative caring. I’ll tell you about them sometime, but right now, I want to thank all of you sweet friends who have prayed or sent texts and emails to check on our family.  Oh, how your expressions of care are blessing us!

This morning, though, I can’t get my mind off of the package that is the human body; created in the image of God … and slow to give up.

You formed the way I think and feel. You put me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because you made me in such a wonderful way. I know how amazing that was! You could see my bones grow as my body took shape, hidden in my mother’s womb. You could see my body grow each passing day. You listed all my parts, and not one of them was missing. Your thoughts are beyond my understanding. They cannot be measured! If I could count them, they would be more than all the grains of sand. But when I finished, I would have just begun. (Psalm 139: 13-18 ERV)

My mother-in-law was born at home in 1920. She weighed only 2.5 lbs. Her body has been through a lot in her 92 years … and she doesn’t give up easily. Perhaps today she will.

In the meantime, I am humbled to be here, ushering her as close as humanly possible to the gates of Heaven …

Do me a favor, though, will you? While you’re busy decking the halls and wrapping pretty presents … enjoy it enough for both of us, okay? Christmas is a beautiful season!

The birth of God in human packaging is cause for celebration!

  1. Hugs and prayers!!!

  2. Susan, sending prayers your way. I am a volunteer with a hospice program here. It is rewarding work. But, if your MIL was born in 1910, she is 102? That is awesome. xo

  3. Oh, Susan, what a wonderful, beautiful post…in the face of passing back into God’s hands you found a beautiful way to express it. Thank you, thank you, thank you for taking the time to visit my blog amidst this life transition that you’re experiencing. My heart goes out to you and your family, along with wishes that you continue to see the gifts of this beautiful season. My best wishes and prayers for all of you. ~Zuni

  4. My blogging has been sporadic of late, but I am sending prayers up for her and you now. I’m so sorry this happened, but how blessed she is to have you near. You are a good, good egg, my friend.

I haven’t used my new bottle of cleaner yet, but I plan to soon. I think of you every time I do use it, and smile.

Love to you and yours, and prayers to you all, too.

    XO,

    Sheila

  5. *tears*

I just read a friend’s son’s wedding day post… And then this. The circle of life these “packages” endure. And God prepared them so.

Hugs to you, dear one. And to your good hubby. I know you need them.

    Blessings and love,
    Kelley
