Everyone must take time to sit and watch the leaves turn.
… but I can’t look out the window all day, so I decided to bring some in and share them with you.
Today’s tablescape began with the leaves — and this old wool runner I found recently in an auction box. I love it! There are patches all over, but it seems someone treasured it enough to want to keep it around. Seriously … it appears to have been around a long time.
Wood is one of my favorite decorating elements for Autumn tablescapes, so I started with my bamboo placemats then added these wood-look leaf chargers recently purchased at Wal-Mart.
Next I added Mikasa “Italian Countryside” dinner plates …
… and pale butter-yellow leaf-design damask napkins.
Better Homes & Gardens salad plates recently purchased at Wal-Mart …
… vintage Depression glass sherbets I’ve had “forever” …
… beautiful amber gold tumblers with an etched pinecone design…
… and my everyday Oneida “Mozart” stainless.
The old wool runner down the center of the table was then joined by a collection of candleholders — dried beans in a clear glass hurricane as well as wood (and wood-look) pieces. (The two pierced styles are actually resin and were Dollar General finds several years ago; the tall ones were $3 each, and the short ones were only $1. The chunky real wood pieces came from an auction somewhere along the way …)
A little more embellishing with acorns and Dollar Tree ceramic pumpkins …
… and a beautiful Lenox owl figurine.
Finally, a vintage never-used teakwood salt and pepper set. Look at that beautiful woodgrain.
Now I’ll just let you look …
Let’s light the candles — and bring the evening to a close …
… But wait! Let’s rewind and change one tiny thing. Have you seen these glasses at Dollar Tree?
They’re casual, so let’s see what they could look like at breakfast tomorrow morning …
Nice, don’t you think?
I’m so glad you stopped by today! Your visits and comments are always welcome.
Would you like to see more beautiful tablescapes? When you’re through looking at the ones here, I hope you’ll follow me to these parties …
What a wonderfully earthy table! I love the wooden candlesticks and warm colors:@)
I’m totally impressed that you got this entire look from mostly Walmart and Dollar Store stuff!! It is just lovely. I am particularly drawn to the way the Walmart plates and the vintage sherbet glasses look together.
Marrying the old and new. Perfect!
This is so warm and rich. Those place mats and chargers really start it off in that direction. I just got those salad plates in purple. Love the color of the depression glass and it looks so lovely on the table. I love the centerpieces too. Just make me feel cozy.
Hi. How are you? Pretty table; just love that wool table runner! and, I love the acorns; I also have some lying around for decor. Is your dining room red? {mine is :)}
Have a great rest of the week.
~ Julie
wonderful tale, i love the rich and natural texture~
I knew as soon as I left the store {back in August} I should have picked up those Dollar Tree pumpkins, Susan! When I did go to look for them in September they were nowhere to be found. I love your pinecone glasses ~ just perfect for a Fall table. Such a lovely table!
You did a great job bringing the outdoors in. I felt like I was sitting outside with the breezed blowing the leaves. I love the leaf plates and especially your beautiful amber custard/dessert cups!
Sheila
Absolutely beautiful! I just purchased those very same salad plates from Wal-Mart. I love them!
What a pretty table! I love bringing treasures from the outdoors in to my table. You did such a nice job layering the table.
Susan, your words about my “family matters” photo have me all teary. You extracted a lot from that photo and all of it true. You have left me with a very grateful heart tonight and I appreciate it so very much. Thank you…
You used your ‘wood’ element to great effect for your Autumn tablescape. The shot through your wavy glass window is beautiful. Maybe you’ll frame it. Your table is nicely balanced…you have a good eye for design. Thank you for sharing your charming vignette. Cherry Kay
Beautiful table! That runner is really pretty, and I LOVE the candlesticks!!! They are really unique!
Thank-you for your poem in pictures and the elegant beauty of wood grain at the centre of the your theme, it reminds me of W. H. Davies poem:-
What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.
No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows.
No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.
No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night.
No time to turn at Beauty’s glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance.
No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began.
A poor life this if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.
What a wonderful poem! Thank you for sharing so we can all enjoy its beautiful words.
