25th Anniversary Disappointment . . . and Surprise

I’ll tell you the surprise first:  The couple celebrating their 25th anniversary are in their 90s.

The disappointment was that they’d planned to celebrate out of town with family, but a recent hospital stay and the resulting move to assisted living kept them in town. Their church family stepped in and planned a celebration . . . because this couple is a blessing to so many—and the least we could do is bless them!

After church last Sunday, they entered a basic “fellowship hall” quickly transformed to bring sparkles to their eyes.

Several ladies created the delicious food with the idea of “old school” bridal shower in mind.

I created the decorations with the same thoughts:

  • tulle
  • wedding bells
  • flower petals
  • pearls
  • rice
  • baby’s breath

The “expected” punch bowl embellished with baby’s breath. Details matter! (Thanks for that little lesson, Mom.)

Then we added a bit of modern bling.

The “table for two” seen at so many of today’s wedding receptions was the pièce de ré·sis·tance.

Anniversary 25

The bride and groom loved it!

You wouldn’t know it, but these two have appeared here at My Place before. He’s a veteran, and she knits beautiful prayer shawls. They are jewels in our community.

Who are jewels in your community? Won’t you please leave a comment and tell us?

Gratitude is a great way to begin the weekend!
