Spring Cloche Party: The Nest

This little nest is only 2 1/2″ at its widest point … and barely over an inch tall.

I found it about four years ago when my youngest daughter and son-in-law bought their first house. It was hidden in overgrown shrubbery  — a reminder of a Springtime past … and a hope for Springtimes to come.

Last Easter, Renaissance Man’s then 89-year-old mother came from Texas for a three-week visit. I knew it would likely be the last time she could make such a long trip, so I wanted her to see some of her treasures … ones she had already passed on to our family.  I displayed her set of demitasse cups and saucers  — with their sweet pink and gray flowers — on a large pressed glass plate that once belonged to her mother, Renaissance Man’s grandmother. In the middle, under a “cloche” I sat the treasured nest on an inverted milk glass vase.

Leaving plenty of room on the sideboard for Easter desserts, I tucked another “found” bird’s nest into a milk glass compote that once belonged to my own Grandma … and added a white ceramic cross with an embossed design that mimicked the beautiful handmade runner I first showed you HERE.

But that was last year.

This year, I’ve used the same tiny bird’s nest. It has become a favorite part of my Spring decor.  Today I placed it in the opening of a vintage etched glass vase … and set it in the center of a silver overlay plate.

I tucked a little surprise inside the nest … and covered it with a small cloche.

The surprise is a necklace that I often wear.

In this picture you can see the dogwood charm I received from a longtime friend last year on my 50th birthday. It’s a symbol to me of Springtime and new life and, of course, friendship. You also see a charm with the simple word “hope.”

When days are dark or confusing, I find comfort and refuge in the promise of Hope.

As Spring bursts forth in color and new life, I pray you can say the same.

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who through his great mercy has given us a new birth and a living hope  by the coming again of Jesus Christ from the dead.  (1 Peter 1:3)
