Happy Thanksgiving – 2010

Happy Thanksgiving!

This is my last tablescape of the Fall season … and it highlights the one element of Fall decorating I haven’t yet used in a tablescape: METAL. (If you missed my previous posts, I focused on POTTERY here, and WOOD here.)

Today’s is a very traditional Thanksgiving tablescape with a turkey and Pilgrims, oranges, golds and reds … and I’ve included elements of tarnished brass and shiny gold. Casual and elegant. A mix not often attempted …

A quick look at the dishes

A mix of metals …
* Brass tray *
* Painted metal cache pot *
* Brass hour glass *
* Brass and copper pumpkin *

* Gold flatware *

* Gold-rimmed goblets and coasters *

* 24-K gold-plated candlesticks *

(An auction box surprise — BIG smile!)

Add in some tradition …
* Vintage tablecloth with gold chrysanthemums *
* Turkey tureen *

* Papier-mache Pilgrims *
(another auction box surprise)

As night draws near, I want to be sure I haven’t wasted the day. I want to remember what’s important. The beautiful words penned by Grace Nowell Crowell come to mind…

Because I have been given much, I too must give;
Because of thy great bounty, Lord, each day I live;
I shall divide my gifts from thee
With every brother that I see
Who has the need of help from me.

Because I have been sheltered, fed by thy good care,
I cannot see another’s lack and I not share
My glowing fire, my loaf of bread,
My roof’s safe shelter overhead,
That he too may be comforted.

Because I have been blessed by thy great love, dear Lord,
I’ll share thy love again, according to thy word.
I shall give love to those in need;
I’ll show that love by word and deed:
Thus shall my thanks be thanks indeed.

My most sincere thanks to each of you for stopping by today. May your holiday season ahead be full of continued thankfulness, hope, and joy.

I’m joining the Thanksgiving party at Between Naps on the Porch.
It’s Tablescape Thursday!
