Festival of Tables 2010

What a fun Saturday I’ve had! The morning began with me packing several large tubs of dishes, flatware, linens and “stuff” into my car. Today was the day of Festival of Tables, an annual tablescaping event hosted by the ladies of our church and attended by women throughout our community. When I arrived to decorate, this is what I saw …

Obviously, a few of the table hostesses either did their tables last night (or they were VERY fast to have already come and gone in the 30 minutes the doors had been opened), but the room was mostly filled with empty tables … boring, waiting-to-be-transformed tables.

All day long, people moved in and out of the room. Women — sometimes alone, sometimes with a friend or family member.  Men — usually hauling in boxes … and more boxes!  Kitchen staff — preparing the evening’s delicious meal.  Children — wondering how much longer Mom was going to be.  Lots of laughter, asking for opinions, hard work, sharing ideas, oohs and aahs — and more laughter. Finally, just before the lights were lowered, this is what I saw …

Seventeen tables, each lovingly prepared to host 8-10 people,  scattered throughout the room and boasting a WIDE variety of styles. All colors of the rainbow — sometimes on one table!  Whimsical, elegant — and everything in between.

All day, tablescapers ranging in age from 14 years to the winter of life, had worked side-by-side, learning from each other … enjoying the fun (and art) of tablescaping. The room was transformed, and the event was about to begin …

I hope you’ll join me later this week when I start sharing the table themes and close-ups of each table!

Have a great week!

  1. How fun! Our old church did something similar at Christmas. It made the event that much more special when I thought about the planning and care that went in to each table theme!

    Have a great week!
