I’ve been on both the giving and the receiving end of this creative caring idea.
Both ends make me happy!
When my daughters were preschoolers, we prepared plates of homemade Valentine-shaped sugar cookies and took them to each family in our cul-de-sac. It was an easy way to meet new neighbors – and a good teaching experience for my girls. You may want to bake some to share with neighbors during the upcoming holidays. If you prefer soft sugar cookies (as opposed to crunchy) like I do, feel free to try my recipe.

Another time, a new family moved into our neighborhood, and the wife stopped by to introduce herself. It was Wintertime, and she gave us her Bean Stew recipe and all of the non-perishable ingredients for making it! I’ve thought of her kindness many Winters since then … and repeated it a few times as well. If you’d like to do the same,
here’s Mrs. Porier’s recipe.

Thank you for the inspiration, Susan. Good neighbors are a great blessing. I have some wonderful neighbors.
I love the subject of this post! My children use to take around little valentine cookie bags to the neighbors as well. I think somewhat we have gotten away from being neighborly as a society and it needs to change! And so I suppose we need to be the change. Kudos for you in doing the 31 day challenge. I thought about it, but since I work part-time I knew it would be way too much.
Sending you a neighborly hug,
Gayle
I recall that saying that it is far better to give than to receive. I tell ya, Susan, I just get such a huge rush out of the giving!!! It makes me feel really good to know that I have made someone else’s day. Whether it’s through cookies or knowledge or a helping hand…it just makes you feel like you’re doing something worthwhile on this planet! Take care of yourself, sweet one, and have a good weekend!
I may have mentioned that the one single thing I enjoy doing in the kitchen is bake oookies. I love to do sugar cookies with my daughters and decorate them. Now that I think of it, I haven’t made any to share in a while. A LONG WHILE!!! Thanks for the push in the right direction.
What a great way to be creative is baking cookings! The wonderful part is being neighborly by giving them to friends and neighbors. I love your story of teaching your children to share. A great posting to cause us to reflect our sharing with the neighbors!
