Christmas at Biltmore Estate

How about a short field trip on this Friday before Thanksgiving?

Anyone needing a break?

Renaissance Man and I had to be in South Carolina earlier this week—and WE were needing a break— so I made my request:

How about on the way home we stop at Biltmore to see the Christmas decorations?

He agreed—and so we did!

And now you can, too!

Let’s “travel to a whole new state of mind” to Asheville, North Carolina. Today we’re visiting Biltmore Estate, America’s largest home, built over a century ago by George Vanderbilt for his family—and still owned by the family today.

I know you’re busy, so here are just a few bits of inspiration to think about as you’re baking those Thanksgiving pies.  🙂

Classic Biltmore

Biltmore Reds and Greens

See the gifts? The day we were there was the staff Christmas party. How many staff? 2500!

Biltmore Blues

And in case you’re one who thinks “Christmas flowers” are only poinsettias, amaryllis, paperwhites, and Christmas cactus, think again!

Do you have a favorite color combo for Christmas decorating?

If you’ve never been to Biltmore Estate, it’s a “must see” for anyone who loves history—and luxury! At the very least, check out their amazing website . . . but preferably, let me know when you’re headed my way. I’ll meet you there!

    Hi Susan!
Great idea! Glad you got to go to the Biltmore! I love it too I never tire of visiting there! Have you ever been to the candlelight Christmas tour? It’s really neat they have musicians in some of the rooms playing Christmas music, it’s just awesome. It’s been a long time since I have gone at Christmas your post reminds me it’s time to go again! Thanks!!!!

    • No, I haven’t done Candlelight Christmas — yet. If our business dinner had been a lunch, we were going to do it this time, but alas… I did love the Christmas music played on the pipe organ in the dining room, though!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, Cindy.

  2. We spent four days at the Bilmore several Christmases ago. It was my 2nd trip. One of my favorite places. CherryKay

  3. Thanks for taking me to the Biltmore! I have still never been in person. One of these days… 🙂 So, so beautiful from your pictures. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, Susan!
