Mrs. McGregor’s Garden Party

Do I have a treat for you today!

Last week, a reader saw my Mr. and Mrs. McGregor inspiration boards … then sent me pics of a Mrs. McGregor’s Garden Party table she has done — two actually! I love to get emails from you, and they’re extra special when they include photos!

Since Katherine doesn’t have a blog of her own, I’m sharing her photos and “behind the scenes” commentary right here at My Place to Yours.  I always like knowing how a table comes together, don’t you?  Enjoy!

This table was part of the 2013 annual Entirely Entertaining event at the Bonnet House in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It all started with a flower show requirement of green only. I chose to use herbs, and my co-designer added vegetables to our arrangement.

From that came doing a centerpiece mini-garden. I had wanted to do a live fairy-sedum garden, but I live in Tennessee, and the tablescape was to be in Florida, so transportation would be an issue. The idea kept evolving.  Once I decided on a square miniature garden and found a clear cube shaped vase to use as a dome, I was thrilled, as I still wanted to do a veggie arrangement on top for height.

For the miniature garden, it became imperative that I include a Mr. McGregor figurine, once I knew he existed. He and his garden shed flew in from England, just in time. I found miniature carrots in both Hobby Lobby and on Etsy, and asked mini-sculptor Lily Stewart (AquaticCat-Etsy) to make me a few more carrots, but half eaten, to show the damage Peter had caused.

Once the design got rolling, I was afraid I would only use it once and that it would be too much effort for one table design, but alas… I have already re-used the table design with variations, (flowers instead of vegetables, place cards with Peter Rabbit and friends), and am planning a tea party table setting as well. One variation would be to raise the garden on top of a clear container with veggies, or something else, to make it easier to see the garden detail.

Here’s another of Katherine’s “takes” on Mrs. McGregor’s Garden Party … this one for a garden club flower show at a private home in Memphis, Tennessee.
