Dream come true: Farm Wedding in Amish Country

Picking up where I left you . . . (asking if there’s a farmhouse in my future)

Yesterday was The Day. Really.

After two-and-a-half years of trying to sell a big ol’ house in a little ol’ town, our beautiful home built in 1907 is about to meet its fourth caretakers—and Renaissance Man and I are finally going to build our farmhouse.

Buyer #1 YAY!

Six weeks from now, the woman (and her husband) whose heart beats like mine for old houses will be the next owner of the Witt-Turner House. It’s a farm-themed dream come true. Thanks to all of you who’ve wished us well and pulled for us—and Buyer #1. It means a lot!

But there’s another farm-themed dream come true I got to experience recently, and it took place in beautiful Indiana Amish (and Mennonite) Country.

Turn right. We're almost there.

Driving out pre-wedding to find the venue… Turn right. We’re almost there.

Venue: Lakeside Occasions, Topeka, IN

Isn’t this farm beautiful? It’s the wedding venue selected by a young family friend whose Cowgirl Up high school graduation party I shared with you several years ago. It included a barn, too.

When she called to ask me to help with her wedding, I was delighted. She had some very specific ideas, and we worked (played!) to pull them all together.

I absolutely loved the bride’s bouquet with its unexpected mix of flowers.

It was an absolutely gorgeous (though record hot) October day in Indiana. But by the time the first guests arrived, I was holding my breath as clouds built, temperatures dropped, and winds increased.

No, we did not carve all of those huge pumpkins. Thank goodness for the florist!

Fortunately, though very windy and quite chilly, the ceremony went off without a hitch (other than the barn doors blowing over beforehand causing Renaissance Man to watch them like a hawk as the wedding party processed down the aisle.)

But all’s well that ends well.

Best wishes and God’s richest blessings to the Mr. and Mrs.

I’m curious. . .

Those of you who love barnwood rustic probably aren’t tired of it, but it’s certainly everywhere in Blogland and beyond! Chip and Joanna Gaines. Fixer Upper. Have you heard of them? What about the rest of you? Are you tired of seeing it? Does it all look alike to you or do appreciate the subtleties?

  1. Congratulations Susan and Renaissance Man!! That’s huge news!

  2. Great to hear about the sale of your house!! Exciting times are ahead for you! We’ve a daughter who attended an Amish wedding (with her husband) in Kentucky several weeks ago. Never have heard about all of it, but it was quite an event! – xo Nellie
