A Tablescape Tutorial: The Key to a Quick-change Centerpiece

Recently I asked if this centerpiece looked at all familiar…

If you come here often, it should have.  🙂

Winter Magic - 5

With our house on the market, I’ve wanted to keep a tablescape on the table at all times, so I’ve been quick-changing this centerpiece—since Christmas!

Want to know the trick?  It’s LAYERING.

In the #1 tablescape, I went super quick-and-simple with pinecones, fresh greenery, and vintage Silent Night stenciled ornaments in a wood tray.

Then, after (an unseasonably hot) Christmas, I was ready to cool things off a bit. In my #2 tablescape I added a few rocks and sweetgum balls to the pinecones for a little more texture then sprinkled them with faux snow. The red and green Silent Night ornaments were replaced by a single stenciled Winter-scene vintage ornament (n the prettiest aqua color!)—and a large beaded snowflake ornament. Then—because I wanted to an aqua and red tablescape—I added a red transferware vase and stuck in a few aqua beaded picks for height and *bling*.

Finally, after a few days of beautiful snowfall, I was ready for a change snowman! Tablescape #3 features more faux snow and a trio of tiny mercury glass ornaments in a lidded candy dish (sans lid), with a cute little snowman set atop. That replaced the vase… and the vintage ornament was removed.

The tables look very different, but it was really just a matter of a few quick LAYERING changes.

If you look closely, you’ll see the same white plates and flatware in each tablescape, and the same placemats and candles in #s 2 and 3.

Sssssh… Don’t tell anyone quick-changing a centerpiece is as easy as 1-2-3. Next time just impress ’em!

  1. I always love seeing your pretty tablescapes Susan. Thanks for sharing your tips on layering. And I didn’t realize you’re house was on the market right now. I hope you’re getting lots of traffic, I remember how clean everything always had to be when we were selling our former house.. That was so hard for the (messy) men in my life hahaha.

  2. That is fun. I used a tray this year also. I want my daughter to make me a bigger tray for my table, so I will remember these tips.

  3. Great hints. It would be so much easier and quicker to do this. I am glad you pointed out this great idea!
