Bells are one of my favorite elements of the holiday season, so I can’t get to the end of this Themes of Christmas series without including them!
Just think how many Christmas songs have the word “bells” in their title…
- Jingle Bells
- Silver Bells
- Carol of the Bells
- I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day
- Jingle Bell Rock
- Come On, Ring Those Bells
- With Bells On (Don’t know this one? It’s an old favorite performed by Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton back in 1984, and in my neck of the woods, we don’t forget Dolly!)
Can you think of others?
A Bell theme is another one of those easy, don’t-have-to-plan-ahead themes. Aren’t those nice?
All you need is BELLS. Bell ornaments, figurines, linens, music, wreaths, graphics… Any style. Any color. All over the house–everywhere you look!
Today I went with “silver” bells … so you can use your imagination. I thought it might be a little sluggish after all those holiday sweets!
Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
“God is not dead, nor doth He sleep;
The Wrong shall fail,
The Right prevail,
With peace on earth, good-will to men.”
Have you noticed? Peace on earth is always linked to goodwill to men? It’s not too late to share some more goodwill this year…

Yes, I Heard The Bells On Christmas Day. They ring in my heart.
Oh how I have missed more regular visiting! It’s a long story as to why I’ve been so remiss but maybe I’ll share it. Right now, I will just say that I love your bell theme for a variety of reasons. For one, that song that you quoted happens to be my favorite Christmas song. Yep. While most folks are humming something more familiar, I’m drawn to that one. (It might be because Longfellow is my mother’s favorite poet, and she created a love for him in me.) I love that verse that you posted at the end in particular. I always keep my hymnal that’s on my library table open to that song at Christmas.
And I loved the part about peace being tied to goodwill. I actually studied that verse this year for part of a lesson and was in crazy love with the word study of that particular word. If I could just get the writing “muse” back, I would yak about it.
Anyway, MERRY CHRISTMAS! I hope your New Year is practically perfect in every way.
