Life Lesson #12: Sometimes we give up too easily
It’s not always easy to know when enough is Enough. When it’s time to give up on something–or someone. We live in a culture of “I want everything to be perfect YESTERDAY”…and expending the extra effort to make something pretty/healthy/functional again is not always the go-to response. It seems Contentment trumps Commitment more often than not.
I wonder if vintage linens have anything to teach us…
Once-faded napkins … became eye-catchers for a Fall tablescape. See how HERE.
A crocheted tablecloth full of holes used solely to “pretty up” pictures … became a stunning dress. See it HERE.
An “irreversibly” stained linen … became a sweet touch on the dresser instead. Hard work paid off!
This treasured (but very tattered) matelasse throw once belonging to a friend’s grandmother … is in the process of becoming pillows–one for each of my friend’s cousins.
Listen carefully to this Voice of Experience: Sometimes we give up too easily. Sometimes we quit too soon. Sometimes there’s still “life in those linens” (or in that relationship); it just may look different. It may require more hard work.
It may turn out to be a different kind of beautiful…

You are so right. Life is full of hard choices. But, somehow by letting going, listening closely to God speaking to my heart, I manage to get where I need to go.
This is such a wonderful series. Every post is straight and to the point. I want to learn that skill. I do not possess it. The advice here is so wonderful, and I have to tell you that my Bible teacher mode has kicked in just from your inspirational prompt as has the voice in my head that is always trying to turn something into a life application lesson. My mind is seriously racing with this. You might just see it in writing with “inspired by Susan” attached to it.
