PRAYER: Day 28 of 31 Days of Creative Caring

If you’ve visited here for very long, you already know:

I believe in the power of prayer.

In fact, prayer is the foundation of any creative caring ideas I ever have, so I could have added it to all of my previous 31 Days posts. But today, it’s my focus …

Twenty years ago I read a couple of books by Christian fiction writer, Frank Peretti. I honestly don’t remember a lot about the storylines, but one thing impressed me then … and has stayed with me to this day.

When circumstances arose in Peretti’s books such that a spiritual “battle royal” was about to be fought in the heavenlies, God called on specific Christians to pray. To intercede on behalf of those directly involved in the situation. The stakes were high, and I held my virtual breath as I read…

Were they listening? Would they respond to God’s prompting? Would the battle be won by Good or Evil?

It was interesting to watch the characters. Some immediately sensed the need to pray while others were slower to respond. Even as I understood that the book was a work of fiction, I also realized that the story was real.

Every day, spiritual combat takes place in the heavenly realm.

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world
and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. (Ephesians 6:12)

I WANNA BE THAT GIRL.

The one who’s paying attention … who’s listening. The one God knows He can wake up in the middle of the night from a deep sleep and tell her, “PRAY” … and she’ll pray. (…although she really likes her sleep!)  The one who cares enough about hurting people to go to battle for them if necessary.

I have the will.  Here’s the way …

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Stand therefore,
having girded your waist with truth,
having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and
having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;
praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints.
(Ephesians 6:10-20 NKJV)

Does anybody else want to be that girl … or guy?

I can only imagine what our world would look like if we all said YES…

Anybody?
