Festival of Tables 2012: Part 2

Last week I shared with you Part 1 of our church’s 2012 Festival of Tables.  Without further delay, let’s move on to Part 2.  Just click on any collage once — or twice — to enlarge …

Do you remember the English nursery rhyme “Sing a Song of Sixpence?”  That was the inspiration for this tablescape.  Look closely, and you’ll see bees … the blackbird that was baked in a pie … and the queen’s crown.  Guests at this table all received honey (from the table hostess’s hive) and freshly-baked scones.

The woman who did this table was our church’s Media Center director for many years.  She definitely knows her books, so encouraging her guests to “check” out her table was an obvious choice for a table theme … and a good opportunity to visit the library!

Surely Benjamin Barry (aka Matthew McConaughey) in the movie How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days would give high reviews to the teenage girl who did this table. She was inspired by his “pamper yourself with jewelry” advertising campaign for a diamond company, even making “diamond” rings and earrings for each of her guests.  Too bad this photographer’s skills weren’t good enough to catch all the sparkle.  It was really stunning!

This table was done by the mother of “Frost Yourself.”  Obviously tablescaping is in the blood!  Lots of details in this table as the hostess thought of her religious upbringing and family members who paved the way. Don’t miss the vintage purse with hankie, the white “church” gloves, and the variety of family Bibles. Are you blessed to have some of these same memories?  I am!

What color dress do you think this tablescaper wore to the event?  Nail polish?  I’ll give you exactly one guess!  Look how creatively she used various shades of purple … and paint swatches.  Her mother’s china was the perfect touch, don’t you think?  This is a great example of picking a single color and claiming it!

It was great having this veteran tablescaper back with us this year!  She used classic black and white … and mixed it up a bit with zebra print chargers, marbles, and her fun patterned “giveaway” emery boards tucked inside each glass.  Traditional … with a twist!

Here’s our final table — and another one that’s traditional … with a twist.  If it looks familiar to some of you, it’s because this was my table … and I gave you a preview when I played in the dishes beforehand at home. If you want to see this tablescape with more close-ups and better light, go HERE.

I hope you’ve enjoyed our two weeks of tables from the 2012 Festival of Tables.  If you want to see tablescapes from past events, there are links on my sidebar.

In the meantime … I NEED YOUR HELP!

I’m working on a special series just for you wonderful readers … to help you avoid experiences like THIS reader had.  (Heartbreaking!)  Won’t you please click on that post and read her story … then leave me a comment over there and ask me your linen care questions.  Are you confident — or afraid — when it comes to caring for vintage linens?  I’ll try to help you out!

I’ll be joining:
Let’s Dish! at Cuisine Kathleen
Tablescape Thursday at Between Naps on the Porch
Inspiration Friday at At the Picket Fence
Pink Saturday at How Sweet the Sound
Seasonal Sundays at The Tablescaper

If you like tablescaping, you won’t want to miss it!

  1. Wow! More great tables!!! I love this kind of stuff!!! I know there must be something like this going on in the Kansas City, MO area, but I just don’t know where or when. Too bad…I would love to participate! Maybe I’ll suggest it for the Taste of Lee’s Summit event next year. There are usually about 80 tables in the place that they work like crazy to decorate. Maybe they should ask the community to join in the fun! Thanks for sharing!!!

  2. So much inspiration….take a color and own it….the tablescaper certainly did that with her purple color scheme. I loved the Legacy of Faith design…neat concept. Thanks for inviting us for a peak. Cherry Kay
