Festival of Tables 2012: Part 1

Welcome!
If you’re a first-time visitor, I’m so glad you’re here.  We have a lot of fun here
at My Place to Yours.  I hope you’ll stop by often.

Today I’m sharing with you half of the tables from last weekend’s 11th Annual Festival of Tables at our church. It’s an end-of-Summer fun event for the ladies of our church.  (I’ll show you the other half of the tables next week.)  I think you’ll enjoy seeing the creativity of our table hostesses.  Keep in mind that most of the pictures were taken before the candles were lit and the lights dimmed … so you can see them better.  If you want a closer look, just click the pics twice to enlarge.

So, without further delay …

Enjoy!

This retro tablescape was done by a woman too young to have experienced the days of disco, but she sure brought back fun memories for many of the ladies present.  Disco balls and crazy straws … vibrant colors and disco dance plates … ’70s all the way!

This table was done by a veteran tablescaper; it’s one she’d been wanting to do for awhile.  Anchored by the tablecloth her Grandma took to church dinners, she used a variety of unmatched dishes and flatware.  At Grandma’s house, it didn’t matter whether or not the dishes matched.  When everyone gathered around the table, family and food were the focus.
Grandmas

Roses, roses everywhere in this tablescape.  Fresh, faux.  Dishes, flatware.  Place cards …  Even a table guest!  Aren’t the flower holder napkin rings the perfect finishing touch on this sweetly feminine table?

Lady Bug love …  This table hostess used a collection as the theme for her tablescape.   She even came to the event dressed in red and black!  If you look closely, you’ll see her Mikasa Italian Countryside dishes.  They were a garage sale find:  10 place settings for $40.  What a find!

This London-theme table was done by two young women who often tablescape together.  I love that they used whimsical items like the tricycle and teddy bear yet still achieved a classy feel.  How did they pull that off?  Was it the roses … or the chair covers … or both?

There are many University of Tennessee Vols fans here in our neck of the woods, and this table hostess is one of them!  Even if you’re not, there are some good ideas here for you, including the painted burlap football-shaped placemat.  Tailgate season is almost here …

This table is one of my personal favorites because it was done by two sisters … 11 and 13 years old.  I love “startin’ ’em young!”  I also love that the girls show it’s possible to set an eye-catching table without spending a fortune.  Since we use clear plastic plates at our event, it’s not necessary to use anything more than these pretty silver chargers.

It’s been awhile since this tablescaper has done a table, and it was great to have her back!  Her floral-themed plates and napkins perfectly complemented the variety of birds perched upon her table … and the birds featured on the notecards she gave her guests.  It was impossible to approach her table without “hearing” the cacophony of bird songs.

This week’s final table was done by someone who has more creativity than virtually anyone I know.  She’s the same crafty lady who recently turned a “cutter” crocheted tablecloth into the fabulous dress I showed you HERE.  My pics just don’t do justice to this table, so let me point out a few things you don’t want to miss …

The pink and green floral centerpiece set atop a hat box was an actual high-heeled shoe she covered with moss and filled with flowers.  Her guests each took home a tiny vase of flowers from her garden as well as a treat-filled little purse.  (Of course she made the purses.  So can you!  Go HERE to see how.)  There’s one other detail I don’t want you to miss …  See the placecard?  The tiny pink flowers are tatting carefully glued to hand-inked stems; they were made by a long-gone-from-this-world friend of the hostess whose influence continues to live on in our community.

Well, that’s all of the tables for this week my friends, but there are more where these came from!  Why don’t you head over to my sidebar and sign up to follow My Place to Yours via email or RSS feed so you don’t miss them.

  1. Darlinging designs..the last tablel is spectacular. I’ve made those purses for party favors…had almost forgotten about them. I’ll have to do that again. Thanks for inviting us for a peak. Cherry Kay

  2. Incredibly beautiful and creative! I think the dinner table is the one of the hearts of home, though so many families don’t even sit at a table to eat! These pix are beautiful!

  3. Those tables and designs are amazing! I love them all- each is so unique and different. Great pictures- that was a lot of work with all your photos! xo Diana

  4. Beautiful table settings! SO much inspirations and ideas here…Christine

  5. Oh what fun! I love looking at such creative tablescapes. You never know what you will see, plus it’s amazing the themes they come up with.

  6. I love these! I keep wondering if a festival of tables would go over well around here. It would be so fun for me to see the creativity up close and personal.

I love so many different elements from the tables in this post. My two favorite things from the whole selection are the football place mat and the little purse place cards. I want to copy both ideas. The one where she mimicked a dinner at grandma’s was inspired. That’s exactly how I remember a dinner with my grandmother, and the dishes have a familiarity to them.

All just beautiful. Wish I could have seen them in person. I just scrolled back through again to try to dub a favorite, and I just can’t. I’m looking forward to round II.

  7. I love them all, but Concert in the Park is my favorite. I spotted that owl right away!
Enjoyed the birds perched upon the table as well, and she chose a catchy title for her t’scape.

  8. Those were fun! I love to see how different people put tables together! Everyone has their own unique style, and I just love to hone in on it! I’m amazed by and impressed with the detail some people put in!!! The young girls did a terrific job, and I loved their color scheme. I have to look up exactly what a “Vol” is, but that was a fun table! I loved all the bright florals in the final table. All very well done! Thanks for sharing, and I look forward to Part Deux! 🙂

  9. Glad to see all the lovely tablscapes! You must have so much fun with all the people joined together to display their creativity. I like the Royal Doulton(Cauldon) in the Flora Dora pattern in the grean and red chintz tablescape for it’s one of my china patterns. The Pretty in Pink is so perfect with the addition of turquoise as an accent color. Loved the photos!

    Thanks, Pam

  10. Love the idea of a festival of tables. Thanks for sharing these. I know it was a lot of effort to take the photos and put this post together. It’s fun to see all the creative ideas.

  11. Totally inspiring tables.. each and every one. I love them all. Thank you for taking the time to share them with us.. xo marlis

  14. oh, I loved seeing all these tables! So much fun! I’ve set a U of A table before and had so much fun putting all the red and blue together. Glad to see others are as crazy as I am. Also partial to the British one. My son just became engaged to a lovely young woman from London. I wish we had something like the Festival of Tables here. It is just wonderful to see the variety. So inspiring! Thank you for sharing them with us.

  15. So many neat tables! Love the detail on that place card. Wonderful to have you with us at Seasonal Sundays.
