And Heaven and Nature Sings …

The ignorant man marvels at the exceptional; the wise man marvels at the common;
the greatest wonder of all is the regularity of nature.
~ G.D. Boardman

<   What an absolute joy it's been this weekend to watch Nature wake up all around me. Even in the midst of mundane tasks like laundry and taxes, Renaissance Man and I made time for walks around the yard to clear our heads. Even robins know you have to take a rest every now and then! How amazed I am when an overnight rain seems to bring an immediate change in the landscape, with something new to see every day. I haven’t always noticed such things. Maybe I appreciate them more the older I get …

The Birth of the Flowers
Mary McNeil Fenollosa

God spoke! and from the arid scene
Sprang rich and verdant bowers.
Till all the earth was soft with green,
He smiled; and there were flowers.

Won’t you join us for a walk around the yard?
I hope it relaxes you as much as it does me …

It were Happy if we studied Nature more in natural Things; and acted according to Nature, whose rules are few, plain, and most reasonable.
–William Penn in The Fruits of Solitude

After working on taxes this weekend, I’d sure like some rules that are few, plain and reasonable …

I’m so glad you stopped by today, and I hope you enjoyed Renaissance Man’s flowers. What’s your favorite flower — even if you didn’t see it here! (Would you ever guess that one of my favorites is the tulip?)

P.S.Cherry Kay at Entertaining Women identified these plates from my St. Patrick’s Day tablescape as Haviland Schleiger 113A. Its makers mark signifies it was made from approximately 1895 to 1931. Cherry Kay was extremely generous and gave me a “Haviland 101” lesson, sharing the wealth of her knowledge of “all things china.” Thank you again, Cherry Kay! I still think you need to write that post and share with everyone. It’s truly fascinating …

I’ll be linking to Mosaic Monday at Little Red House and Metamorphosis Monday at Between Naps on the Porch. Won’t you join me?

Tulips are so wonderful…graceful and in so many colors. I really enjoyed seeing all the various hues in your garden. If I were to choose a favorite tulip from your garden, it would be those in Mosaic 3. I don’t know that I have a favorite flower. I’ll have to think about it.

  15. Hi Susan, Your gardens are beautiful, and yes you have my favorite flowers, daffodils. Beginning in February I start my daffodil watch. This year they surprised me and popped up earlier than usual. I also love your hyacinths and tulips. Your husband did a fabulous job creating your flower beds. Sweet photo of the robin.
Love your blog, I’m going to take the tour.
    Happy Spring.

  17. This is just beautiful, Susan. I, too, have been outside soaking in the awesome beauty that God has so freely given. Honestly and truly, there are times when creation is so awesome that even I lack the right words.

This week in south Georgia is such a time.

  18. Susan, this is a lovely entry for this spring weather we are all receiving…just beautiful~

  20. These are beautiful plates and I thought to write the other day and just didn’t. Now that you know what they are, you should take a look at some of the Haviland patterns that are so similar. I’ve got the Cloverleaf which is what I thought these were at first glance. Think you’re absolutely right – there should be a Haviland 101 tutorial!!!
