Peonies for Lunch!

Hello all!  I’m so glad you stopped by, and I hope you’re having a wonderful week. It’s been very HOT here in beautiful East Tennessee — and, yes I realize, even hotter for some of you — so this week I’m posting a fresh and cool tablescape.

Our family recently had the pleasure of visiting with a dear friend from Louisiana … someone we hadn’t seen in five years.  She was in a nearby town on business, and gave us the privilege of her company for a few hours one afternoon. Because I wanted to spend as little time as possible in the kitchen — and more time visiting! — I planned a simple salad lunch.

These brightly-colored reversible placemats by Country Living (which I recently found UNUSED at Goodwill for $4!) were just perfect for a cheerful lunch with an old friend. Don’t you agree?

Versatile white dishes … Gibson “Claremont” from Big Lots (one for salad and one used as a charger plate) and Oneida “Michaelangelo” stainless

Some of my favorite everyday glasses … from Dollar Tree

Pretty in pink vintage napkins picked up years ago at auction… I love the texture!

Quick and easy …

Finally, the peonies were still blooming profusely in the garden, and they provided the perfect centerpiece for the table.

Isn’t their color amazing?  Almost a neon pink!

Off the subject but … How do YOU pronounce peony?

a) PEE uh nee
b)  pee OH nee
I say “a” — but where I live, I’m outnumbered!

Stick a few blossoms in a simple vase and set it on a sweet handpainted plate …

And it’s time for lunch!  Let the conversation pick up right where it left off the last time we were together …

Thanks for stopping by today. I always enjoy your visits and your comments! I hope you’ll come back tomorrow evening for a special treat. Stephanie at Angelic Accents is throwing a party … and I’d love for you to join me.

Today I’m joining Susan at Between Naps on the Porch for Tablescape Thursday.

Comments

  1. Pee-uh-nee.

But they don’t even grow here so I will defer to the experts if that’s wrong.

I love your table, and it IS very cool and refreshing feeling with all the pinks. Peonies are among the worlds most beautiful flowers to me.

I can’t believe you found such great things at Big Lots and The Dollar Tree.

  2. I love the bright pink of your peonies! Glorious! The patchwork-look placemats are darling, too!
Here in the Midwest I’ve only heard peony pronounced “pee-uh-nee”…which I always thought was the only way to pronounce it!! LOL

  3. Our pee-uh-nees are blooming, too, and I used them in my tablescape as well. Love your table! It looks perfect for a girlfriends lunch. Thanks for sharing.

  4. I say pee uh nee too. Your table loooks beautiful and I know you had a nice visit. I love the placemats, great deal! Love your CHAIRS too! XO, Pinky

  5. Your PEE uh nees are the perfect crowning touch for your summer luncheon tablescape. I love the mix of pinks, and the placemats are wonderful! Thank you for sharing your lovely design. Cherry Kay

  6. Pretty table, and what a steal on the placemats!

  7. I’ve always said pee-OH-nee, Susan.

Oh my, this is so gorgeous. I am in love with those placemats. They’re heavenly.

I’m happy to see that you will be joining Stephanie’s wedding party. Sigh…still haven’t put my post together though.

You should add this post to Pink Saturdays too. So pretty.
    Blessings!

  8. Oh how pretty — Love your pretty placemats — great find! I’ve always said pee-uh-nees.

  9. Gorgeous pee-uh-nees, if you please! Beautiful table.
