Mixing it Up for Mother’s Day

My sister and I had the joy of spending part of last week with our parents … making new memories. Some of those memories centered around tablescaping — so today I’m sharing a tablescape that includes a few family pieces. If you’re a regular reader of my blog, you’ve heard me say before that we don’t have many family pieces — but the ones we have, we love!

With Mother’s Day in mind, today’s tablescape began with china that belonged to my paternal grandmother. Grandma’s china was not something she got when she and Grandpa “set up housekeeping” in 1932 but rather something she picked up somewhere along the way.

We chose a tablecloth I gave my Mom several years ago. It’s a sheer fabric with flocked flowers. The golden tones pick up the tiny touches of gold in the china.

I couldn’t resist using these new-to-her napkins I found in Mom’s collection. I LOVE these!

It was fun “mixing it up” with someone else’s pieces for a change. It stretched me to try new combinations I’ve never thought of before…

Next we added Mother’s wedding crystal — the gorgeous Fostoria American pattern popular when she married.

The flatware is by Wallace; we don’t remember the pattern name.

To pull in some of the napkin colors, we “shopped the house” for a quick centerpiece vignette.

As darkness fell, we saw the transformation — that extra special sparkle candlelight brings to crystal…

To my Mom and Sister who played in the dishes with me, Happy Mother’s Day!

To you other mothers who read this, Happy Mother’s Day to you, too!

And if you’re missing your own mother this Mother’s Day, I wish for you extra special memories of your times together … and more comfort than heartache. If you, too, are a mother, I hope you’ll focus on making happy memories with your children — because you now know firsthand how precious those memories will be someday…
