Another Pink Sunset

As I thought of Winter and “pink” and what I might share with you for Pink Saturday, I was reminded of something my Dad once wrote. As we begin a new year, I think the timing’s just right. I hope you enjoy it…

God Has Given Me Another Pink Sunset
We were returning home and turning into the driveway on a beautiful winter evening when Stephanie, my three-year-old granddaughter, whispered to her mother. “God has given me another pink sunset,” she said.

The wisdom of her comments, from one of such tender age, enthralls me. Every word has majesty and meaning.

GOD   The creator of the universe. And the implication from Stephanie is — her God. The influence of a Christian home was never more apparent.

HAS   Meaning not will do, but did. Accomplished.

GIVEN   A present. Not purchased by Stephanie; not even claimed by any merit. A free gift recognized and acknowledged.

ME   What a marvelous love is implied. He did it for me. I know He did. How God must love me to give a present so special Stephanie vibrates, feeling the touch of God.

ANOTHER   This sunset is not the first present. He has done it before. He remembers me again.

PINK   The color of love and generous feelings. And truly, God is love.

SUNSET   Signifying, at the close of this day, remember you are in my care. I gave it just for you. I am with you always.

God gives us sunsets — and sometimes special granddaughters to help us truly see them.

Aaah, out of the mouths of babes …

Well, the “babe” is now a sophomore in college and celebrating her 20th birthday tomorrow — on New Year’s Day.

To you, Stephanie, happy birthday wishes from Aunt Susan and family! Do you like that I called you a “babe” ?  🙂

And to all of you, I extend my best wishes for a new year full of God’s richest blessings … and many beautiful sunsets (and sunrises) to remind you that you are loved!

Happy New Year!

I am joining Beverly at How Sweet the Sound for Pink Saturday

  1. I enjoyed this very much. I will never look at a pink sunset the same! I have always thought of the sun setting as God saying goodnight. But now I will also think of it as Him saying, “I love you.” Especially, when it is pink:)
