"Shop the Yard" Centerpiece

Anyone who does very many tablescapes knows that eventually you end up “shopping the house” for items to add to your tablescapes.  True?  You just go around your house and look for things that will either give a focal point — or “filler” — to your tablescape.  (Isn’t it fun when the creative juices start flowing?!!!)

Today, I’m going to show you the result of “shopping the YARD” for this week’s tablescape.

I knew I wanted to use this wooden pedestal bowl for my centerpiece …

… and I wanted to end up with this basic shape.

A dear friend who owns From The Garden Floral Events taught me how to make it happen …

Begin with a block of Oasis floral foam — then soak it in water.
Next you’ll need a grapevine ball — whatever size fits your container — then slice it almost in half.  (I actually used my electric kitchen knife; probably not the smartest thing to do, but I was in a hurry, and it worked!)  Put the well-soaked Oasis block inside.  (I’ve found that unless I have a helper, it’s much easier to spread the grapevine open with both hands and clamp it over the top of the foam rather than trying to insert the foam into the ball.  Think Jaws…)

I had already “shopped the yard” for any bits of color I could use for this week’s tablescape, so I positioned the grapevine ball …

and inserted flowers and greenery.

Once it was finished, I temporarily set it on the newel post in my living room — until I needed it for my tablescape.

To see the finished tablescape, go here.  Guess what?  You won’t see any “traditional” Fall colors …

yes, you are right. I always look for items for tablescape, although I often decide not to buy new stuff for this event. But your idea is great and I am curious for your next Tablescape, how it will look there.
