Falling for Wood

A few weeks ago I showed you the kinds of elements I like to use to bring warmth and texture to my Fall decorating.  (If you missed it and want to read the post, click here.)  One of the elements I mentioned was POTTERY, and I’ve already done a pottery-focused tablescape here.

Today’s tablescape focuses on another of my “foundations” of Fall decorating.  This time it’s WOOD.  Once again, you might be surprised to see that I’m using “non-traditional” colors for my Fall tablescape.  Let’s see if it works …

I began with my inspiration piece — a RUG with great texture — and laid it on top of an eggplant-colored tablecloth. (Purple is a wonderful color for Fall decorating! Try adding a touch of it to your traditional orange, red, and yellow.  You just might be surprised what a delightful “punch” it gives to your decor!)

Next I started adding the wood (or in this case the wood LOOK).  I used these plastic embossed chargers recently in another tablescape.  They’re available now at Wal-Mart.

Then I added a Gibson “Nova Scroll” dinner plate. I found a set of four 4-pc place settings at Big Lots for $20.

Next was a Better Homes & Gardens salad plate — available now at Wal-Mart.  The plates come in four different colors (white, green, orange, and purple) for $3 each.

Then — one of the stars of today’s tablescape — a beautiful hand-carved wooden salad bowl.  Isn’t the wood grain fabulous?  The matching serving bowl and six of these small bowls are for sale in my Etsy shop. (Click here to see them.)

These embossed leaf napkin rings look like carved wood, but they’re actually made of resin; I found them several years ago on clearance at an outlet mall store.  The damask napkins are new and are available in my eBay shop in both sage green (shown here) and a beautiful buttery Fall yellow.

Heirloom stainless flatware is Oneida “Michelangelo.”

The large clear crystal goblets are in my eBay shop. I don’t know the maker, but I love the style!  My pictures don’t do them justice! (If you know their details, please leave a comment and tell me!)

Finally, the center of the table is a compilation of the floral arrangement I showed you how to make here, chunky candleholders, and more vintage wooden pieces — serving pieces and carved fruits.  Vintage wooden fruit is easy to find at flea markets and on eBay and Etsy, and it’s not expensive at all.

I’ll just let you look now — with only an occasional comment…

The pierced candleholders are actually made of resin. They were a Dollar General find 7-8 years ago — $3 apiece.
Now that you can see the entire table, I’ll tell you about the fabulous tall candleholders. They were an “I’m not believing I found these — and for only $5 each!” discovery at a tiny salvage store in central Louisiana a dozen years ago. The store owner said she “bought the contents of a train wreck out West.”  Wow! They are solid wood, very heavy, and I look forward to using them every Fall. (Sorry … no plans to sell these!)

This beautiful vintage linen hand towel got tucked in at the last minute. I almost forgot I had it, but when I remembered the non-traditional use of red and purple with Fall leaves … I knew you had to see it! 🙂

It’s time to light the candles … and let the magic begin.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this romance with wood. Thank you for visiting.

I’m sharing this tablescape with Susan at Between Naps on the Porch.
It’s the 112th Tablescape Thursday.
